Sustainable straw

Plastic waste is a popular topic these days. Let’s help mother earth by using alternative straw solutions, enjoy your cocktails with a sustainable straw without compromising your cocktail experience.

Did you know that plastic straws are placed in top 10 of the most common plastic wastes in the world?

Straws; glass, bamboo, plastic, paper, metal. There are many alternatives, so I have made an overview and review of all the sustainable straws. Please take a look and find your favourite sustainable straw for future cocktails.

Paper straws:
Paper straws are common to find pretty cheap, both in your local grocery store and online.
Tip; don’t use paper straws for big cocktails as the straw quickly start to absorb liquid and becomes soft.

Metal straws:
Metal straws can be re-used endless times and can go in the dishwasher.
There are many opinions on metal straws, personally I don’t prefer the feeling of metal in my mouth, but they look classic and are eco-friendly.

Bamboo straws:
Bamboo straws are one of my preferred sustainable straw options. I find them very aesthetic, especially for Tiki cocktails.
Tip; buy bamboo straws with a big diameter for crushed ice cocktails, as I have experienced that the straws with a smaller diameter tend to pick up crushed ice, which blocks the straw.

Glass straws:
My favourite sustainable straw is without a doubt glass straws. Glass straws don’t take colour from the liquids they are served in and they are durable and dishwasher safe. If you take care of them, your straws will last forever! The only minus about using glass straws, is obviously the risk of dropping and breaking them as they are made of glass. Beside that, I find glass straws to be the perfect sustainable / eco friendly straws.
